Vancouver Bound

In the NAIT Photographic Technology Program we as students have to find our own work experience which is limitless depending on our own motivation and determination on find the right photographer. After a good amount of research, emails, and stressing finding the right one for me; I have found David Ellingsen who is stationed in Vancouver. I’m stoked to be following David because he is an astonishing Commercial & Fine Art photographer who had interest in my short internship from my first email I sent him a few days ago. He has many accolades in the industry for both fields and along side that his Fine Art projects are showcased around the world. For the dates of April 4th to 15th I will be honoured to follow such a great photographer… I will absorb every single knowledge he is willing to share with me. Vancouver here I come!

Check out his Website HERE and his Blog HERE.

Here are some examples of his work:

End Of The Week

Usually my fridays consists of going to Fine Art Photography Class, nom’n on food, take out gear for the weekend, head straight to work, work till 9ish, and then head out to party… this past weekend was no different. This time around after work I headed to the UofA climbing wall for the Tour De Bloc finals. The moves that both men & women were doing were stunning! The amount of skill/power they need to do each movement to finish the route was jaw dropping. The biggest hype moment was on the mens route 4 when Miles who is only 17!?! crushed it with a huge dyno to the finish which stumped most competitors. Just thinking about it makes me want to go climb… haha

After the comp I headed over to watch Key’s N Krates play at the Pawnshop. If you guys didn’t go, you MISSED out on their live remix’s of classic songs, new songs, and everything in between! It was a dance party all night long with DJ Jr-Flo on the 1’s & 2’s, Matisse on the Keyboard, and Adam Tune on the drums. Edmonton you need to STOP sleeping on these performances because who knows when they will come back… for now listen to their latest mix and hear what you missed!

Niche

In the past year there has been a booming movement of small little 30 person seating restaurants in the city which I’m happy to see being a foodie and really seeing how Edmonton is growing culturally. One of these restaurants is Niche (11011 Jasper Avenue). My friend, John Ahn, is one of the owners of this establishment and he allowed me to take a portrait of him before opening. We started to talk about how this city is eventually going to be a food city that will draw more people to this city and how people here have to stop complaining about the city while not doing anything about it. This is one thing that John wanted to do for the city for the better of for the city… thus far its working with the restaurants unique setting, small intimate service, and great dishes from Nathan Saurette whom is the chef.

When I ate there a few days later after the photoshoot, I was truly impressed. I had the confieed duck that fell off the bone, Kevin had the beef cheeks in a bed of pasta, Salim had a sirloin wrapped in pastry, and Suki had the salmon with boc choy. We all shared a bite with each other and we all enjoy it throughly! Do check it out for yourself and enjoy the experience!

Sarah FluidHair Cameron

I LOVE to shoot people that have some sort of background story, strong personality, and an attitude to them that comes out in the photograph… and an awesome dog like Kane! Sarah is all this and more! On this last minute shoot we did it at her hair salon , Fluid Hair on 9916 81 Ave, we did six variation of photographs that showcased her. I wanted to capture different aspects of Sarah from her tattoos, what she does on the daily, and what she loves (her bike & Kane). Fluid Hair Salon has many sections that allowed me to have several backdrops and props… such a wicked space. Doing these kind of shoots remind why I love photography and the interaction with people that I’m shooting. Till next time…

You Know You Want SUM!

It’s been a ritual for my family & friends to go to Dim Sum on Sundays since I was born… today was no exception! I honestly wake up every Sunday and immediately send out a mass text message to get people to get dim sum. I either go to Jumbo or Golden Rice Bowl… either or are good in my opinion, BUT if you do go please don’t be alittle wuss and not try/eat the chicken feet and tripe. IT’S SOO GOOD! If anyone is down for dim sum on any Sunday, hit me up & I will meet up!

Favourite Items:
- Chicken Feet
- Beef Tripe
- Shoamai (Pork Dumpling)
- Lotus Leaf Rice

Additon Of Textures

For those who knew I was working a semester long project that was for my Thesis course… well now it’s DONE! YAY! This project consists of 15 or more images that depicted our own thesis we created. My thesis was about adding texture to fashion/lifestyle portraiture. I chose to shoot in a horizontal format that textures that I shot were added to create more depth to the overall image. I also added cinematic boarders on the top & bottom of the final photograph to create a certain mood to all the images. To create more warmth to the overall images I split toned all of them along side with their corresponding textures to warmer tones. I’m pretty happy with the results when everything was put together.

Here are the photographs that I created with the help of my good friends who modeled for me: Amor, Ashley, Bethany, Bailee, Dani, Donna, Erin, Lauren, Leah, Makahnna. Megan, Micki, & Sarah. THANK YOU ALL!

ENJOY!
