My FAVOURITE Subject Matter

With these NEVER ending assignments this year… FINALLY I am shooting something I truly enjoy; Food. I wanted to cook something different and an omelette came to mind. To fill the omelette I bought italian sausage in the casing/raw, shallots to be outside the norm, and of course one of my favourite garnishes… CILANTRO! For the overall composition I wanted the raw ingredients along side with the finish product to give the viewer the knowledge of whats in it; while making the eye go back to the finished product. I’m pretty happy with this shot for the amount of time I did it.

Have FUN with cooking, try NEW recipes, & ALWAYS keep nom’n!

Breakfast of Champions

Usually I don’t have time or effort to make breakfast BUT today was different… Once I woke up I was craving eggs, waffles, bacon, and sausage. THANKFULLY I had all those ingredients plus a little more in the fridge! I had blue berry Ego waffles, good old Canadian bacon, Johnsonville sausage patties, and eggs which I added aged parmesan to SOO FUCKN GOOD!. Such a massive breakfast for a massive weekend of possibility of messy drinking might happen? See you at The Common or a random house party?

From Scratch

Everything always tastes better when made from scratch. This is what I told myself today when I was thinking what to make for dinner for my family. I knew that I had steak as a the protein so I instantly knew I wanted to BBQ it. I had to think for awhile to come up with making steak fajitas. Soo I wanted to make the guacamole and salsa from scratch for the first time. I was surprised how good they both came out and came together in the fajitas. I like to cook different from the norm for my family because I like to try new ingredients or literally think what to cook all day. Enjoy cooking for others and always try new ingredients/recipes that are in a high quality! Here are the images I took while making dinner tonight.

Simplicity

Today I wanted to cook my family a really simple pasta dish with a really simple salad to compliment the main dish. I remember a friend showing me this simple tomato, onion, and butter sauce which I wanted to recreate and knew how rich in flavour it was. The salad I chose to do was an arugula salad with radish and a olive oil, lemon, & dijon vinaigrette. This was perfect for the peppery tones the arugula has to stand with the pasta sauce. I was really happy with my results for doing this sauce for the first time. Remember to enjoy what your cooking & it dosen’t hurt to have a glass or two of wine while doing it!

Motivation is KEY

I had a good slump of not cooking for a couple of weeks now and yesterday I FINALLY had motivation/inspiration to cook! I knew that my dad was cooking a roast, which btw was soo GOOD!, and I wanted two sides to compliment the meat. I went with the steady & true of roasted potatoes with fresh rosemary, olive oil, and salt/pepper. The second side I wanted to try something different and I remembered going to my cousins house during summertime which she baked an asparagus tart. I knew the basic ingredients of using a puff pastry, asparagus, & parmesan cheese…it came out AMAZINGLY! I’m super stoked to get back into the groove of cooking. Here are my some images to keep your mouths watering…

Curry Fix

Last Friday Mariel & I cooked something we were both craving that day… CURRY! Mariel recently had the curry noodles at Surgarbowl & got inspired to make her own version that was absolutely amazing. It was green curry, white fish, bean sprouts, cilantro, coconut milk, & rice noodles. First and for most we boiled water to soak the noodles in. Then we added some vegetable oil with the green curry paste to create our base sauce alongside with coconut milk. With the base all married together, it was time to add the fish, bean sprouts, & cilantro which cooked very fast with the lid on. Roughly around 5-10 minutes of cooking and it was ready to combine the noodles & the sauce/fish together in a bowl to consume. If your looking to get your curry fix, this recipe is for you!

Scallops Without The Bacon

Saturday nights are becoming a ritual for Mariel & myself to cook dinner right after I’m done work. This past Saturday night we were really craving some scallops in a simple way without wrapping bacon around it like everyone else does and we decided to sauté them in brown butter/olive oil with salt & paper seasoning. 30 secs on each side to get enough browning without over cooking it… that is a no no!

Now its on to the sides which were pretty easy as well for the prep and cook time. We wanted some greens and startch soo we got some zucchini and potatoes that were seasoned in olive oil and salt & pepper and thrown in the oven to roast. We put the potatoes in 10mins before actually putting in the zucchini to make sure we didn’t over cook them…

We were both really pleased how this meal came out for the simplicity & minimal seasoning that each ingredient stood out on its own without getting masked by over seasoning. Keep it simple!

Till the next Saturday Night Cooking… Keep on Nom’n!

Brunch & BE@RBRICK’s

After the hella fun time last night, a bunch of us decided to go for some brunch in the morning at Sawmill. This buffet had a wide range of items from salads, roast beef, eggs benedict, beacon, chocolate fountain, fruits, & much more and was only $20! This blowed my mind… need to go there more often! We had soo much food there, we started to experiment with the plethora of items to mix together… like BACON & CHOCOLATE! It was surprisingly delightful from the sweetness of the chocolate and the saltiness of the bacon… this is going to be a staple from now on. After brunch I headed to Haven to pickup my newest addition to my collection. These monochrom Be@rbricks are soo dope! Wish I had enough doe to get the 1000%, but not this time…
