Found this video on Justeezy blog about our homie Nathan Matthews who has passed recently… Big ups to Liam Mitchell for composing the video togeather…
This weeks critique topic was “Bikers” and the first thing that came to mind for me was fixed gear bikes. Soo I borrowed Justin’s bike and stood infront of it with the stereotypical fit that you would think a hipster fixed gear biker would wear. No disrespect to any riders out there.. just in photography you have to be very litteral to those viewers who don’t know anything about this subculture. I also wanted to shoot from my shoulders down to create a mystery/universal subject who rides these bikes. From the light point I wanted to highlight the bike majority with me being the second priority, thus I used one light source with a softbox with dragging for some ambient lighting. Hope you guys enjoy the photography!

I honestly can eat a sandwich for every meal of the day. Today I was craving a good old croissant sandwich. Soo I took some black forest ham, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, & fresh cracked peper and went to town on making this AWESOME sandwich. Along side with my sandwich, I had a glass of pomegranate & blueberry juice to get some de-toxins in my body after the weekend. Feels good to eat healthier food than what I was eating… hopefully I can keep up this string of eating healthier!
Dan Chmielewski aka Danskee1 & 1/2 of Haven will be having his own art show at The Common on March 12, 2010. He will have several art pieces that under hush hush right now until reveal day. Pretty stoked to see what Dan has in store because I have not seen his work for awhile now…
This afternoon I was at Bamboo Ballroom to shoot Stacey for one of my Photojournalism class and lone & behold Olive was at the shop TOO! I remember when she was a little pup, chewing on my vans, and yelping like a baby. Now she is a TANK and HUGE… love this dog soo much! Here is the one shot she actually stood still…
Tonight was Redstar’s monthly Reggae night which hosts guest DJ’s spinning reggae all night long, Red Stripe specials, AND jerk chicken, cornbread, rice, & empanadas on the menu. Soo I brought Mariel to her first outting to this night and ask her yourself how much she loved it! It’s every first Wednesdays of each month… I WILL See you next month!

This weeks Critique topic is “Growth“… first thing that comes to EVERYONES mind is plants, pregnant women, or anything imitating those subject matters. I wanted to do something different… I ended up shooting a roasted chicken along side a 1/2 dozen eggs side by side. I wanted to show the growth the eggs could of had as a chicken BUT could end up roasted and delicious. The idea came to mind for me when I was looking at Irving Penn’s food photographs like his “Cholesterol’s Revenge”, which you can view HERE, from the rawness of the food itself explaining the photograph. This shot is very abstracty/artsy for me which I know I’ll get bashed in critique BUT meh; I shoot what I want…

When I have free time before going to school or a photoshoot or work, I like to go to HMV or Blackbyrd to seek new/old music. Today I headed over to West Edmonton Mall’s HMV due to they always have HUGE stock of music. I seeked for a specific album from a new band that I just discovered yesterday on What The Hellz. The band is El Perro Del Mar who have a very similar sounds to Lykke Li whom I’m a big fan of… Soo I got their latest album “Love is not Pop” along side with Gorillaz albums because they were 2 for $25 which is a STEAL! Just really stoked for their newest album “Plastic Beach” coming out on March 9th…
The FF Squad are true OG’s in the Honda game since the early-mid 90’s. Now to see where they are at now is amazing and inspring. These guys keep me motivated on how your suppose to build a Honda and how to race on the track and NOT on the streets. With all this warm weather and having race season around the corner… this video makes me want to wake up the red beast to hear her turn over with the throttle wide open…
Mariel and I went to Dadeos on friday night to do some nom’n… First off we ordered some pints of Alley Cat Chili Lager & Full Moon Lager. For our mains Mariel got the classic Po’Boy with calamari & sweet potato fries and I got the shrimp creole with rice & coleslaw… of course both dishes were bang on as usual! The things I love about going to Dadeos is the atmosphere of feeling like your in New Orleans from the neon lights, music, decor, and of course the staff that make you feel welcomed. These are the reasons why I keep on coming back weekly…

Mariel Noms joining me for some Nom’n

The Chili lager had a bit of a spicy bite which was surprising yet refreshing

Biscuits with some of their own jalapeno jelly

Mother Load of SHRIMP…soo good!

Calamari Po’Boy & Sweet Potato Fires… what else do you need?

Till the next eating… Keep HUNGRY people!

This weeks Critique is “Expressions Of Hunger”. The only thing that came to mind was a desaturated hand that is all zombie like reaching to an inclosed apple. For some reason an apple to me represents “food” more than anything because of its symbolism to the word “food”… aka Adam & Eve eating the apple. Well here is my submission, tell me what you think of it…

Naww just joking everyone! I’m just doing my Photograph Essay on Haven for my Photographic Technology Program at NAIT. I picked Haven due to the atmosphere they give their customers from their structural architecture to their website layout. For the first shoot I just want to show majority of the interior, which all their Edmonton based cliente see every time they walk in the doors. These are just rough edits for now until I have to hand in my Photo Essay which is the beginning of April…

I have found a new ADDICTION of two of my favourite things to consume, which is chocolate and coffee. Mariel got me some chocolate from Soma Chocolatemaker dubbed the name “The Epic Latte Milk Chocolate Bar” that is 45% coco dark chocolate that is infused with coffee beans from 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters when she was in Toronto during reading week…this stuff is wayy too good! If you ever wonder what to get me for any occasion, this chocolate is it!
